Who are we
About us
We are OOFERS. One of the oldest, largest but still active factions in starscape. We were founded in 2020 august 13th by Rockoyhead and Iraaz. A few days later our first member Hrdystepan, now a joint leader, joined us.
We grew from a small economic faction to one which thrives in every aspect of the game. Whether you want millions of credits or to become a skilled pirate we are the obvious choice for you to reach that goal.
We don't focus on NPC faction warfare because fighting for NPC's is dumb.
Meeting of rock and iraas
The friendship of the founders started with a story.
Deep in wild space, Iraas was casually hunting drones in his brand new barracuda, when suddenly... he noticed an oddity. The player tab had another goober, a goober which proceeded to leak its location in chat, offering "Red Narcor".
Now cautious after hearing such bait, Iraaz weighed up his options. Is this a pirate? If so can I take him? Or is he genuinely mining? Quick to his toes, Iraaz warped to kill this wild space perpetrator. That was of course, until his eyes reassured his mind that this indeed was a mining vessel, in fact, a measly honey badger. (It was technically the best mining ship at the time)
Still torn between the dilemma of good and evil, Iraaz waited and eyed up his potential victim. "Here is the RED NARCOR" spat the goober.
If you haven't figured it out already, the goober was Rockoyhead.
After this unlikely meeting, both humans started drone hunting every weekend and soon decided to create OOFERS when Rockoyhead brought up his idea. And Iraaz cooked on the logo.
Anti Piracy and Retribution
Believe it or not OOFERS started out as an eco-anti piracy faction. Mostly focusing on very specific types of events and profiting from a unique form of taxation. The standard taxation at the time in any functional faction was a weekly quota of up to 20,000 credits which, nowadays would be closer to 150,000-200,000 credits. Our system was based on percentages of event goods, 40%, which was extremely lenient for the time. Take into account the fact you're best mining ship is a honey badger and drone structures weren't even killable yet. Loot wasn't easy to come by. Ironically when tax systems died out globally, our system was demonised despite having being reduced to a 20% rate.
Changes to piracy
OOFERS changed their view from anti piracy to a default piracy and "NAP those worth it" mindset, somewhat influenced by the hate coming from other factions at the time. This led to the beginning of the OOFERS NAVY, a separated division from the economic part of OOFERS designed to train people up for fleet combat.
The result of this ended up in a lot of piracy spouting up from individual OOFERS members as well as battles with existing reputable factions at the time to gain influence for diplomatic reasons. A lot of veteran players you may have heard of were originally part of the OOFERS navy.
It's no lie that OOFERS has had its fair share of internal issues, which has led to strange influxes and losses of members. We have always been a very no bullshit faction and quite heavily right leaning compared to other options. However changes in structure and mindset over the years has brought peace to OOFERS despite our notoriety.
Impact on the landscape
After retribution, we joined the dynamic coalition. However after the death of TDC, we began founding our own alliances. These included CJN which was our first but quite minor. Later we created KOGM, which evolved into THE CONSORTIUM. After this STFU was founded as its own thing.
All of these alliances suffered from constructing a metropolis for a tribe. Our goals and ideas were always far ahead of the competition, but this led to the inability to train staff at a realistic rate. Coupled with the inactivity due to Keth's update schedule, this caused major problems.
STFU did suffer from this issue, but current reworks have changed the alliance to a scale up approach rather than fill the impossibly large bucket approach, leading to a stable and now prosperous alliance.
It should be known that the other alliances though they had their issues still were used to good affect.
Innovation
A great reason to join OOFERS is our innovative mindset. Over the years we have developed some truly unique systems for a faction, including our own internal currency and economy. This allows us to pay wages to our officers, and liquidate members assets in bulk rather than have them waiting on the market. OOFERS is essentially a hedgefund funded by tax and rates rather than investors.
Our successful economy allows us to sell our own ships and builds to our members and offer full insurance during any official event by us. We even 100% fund our navy with ships and modules.
This website is also a demonstration of our innovation in Starscape. Our own website and docs is very useful, and neccessary, for running our grade of systems.
If you're for example a software engineer, writer, video editor, or skilled individual, we'd love to have you in OOFERS as we tend to work on projects together which are great fun, and honestly look good on your CV.
We built our own bot, (Monni) originally for these systems as an example. We also have our own beacon solving bot which was the first one ever made. (At least that we're aware of.)
Our Anti Spy systems are the best there is. A full application and background checking system. We can't go into too much detail on the specifics but we've successfully been able to keep out 90% of spies, and catch the other 10% later down the line. We also have measures within the faction which prevent our events being raided by spies.
In OOFERS, you can literally get rich without even playing the game, just by working for us.
Conclusion
We're a faction that prioritises efficiency and effectiveness as well as adapting to new environments as quickly as possible. If you love strategy in combat, diversity in approaches to economic growth, or working on high level projects requiring real life skills, then we're right here waiting for you.
